Breitling Navitimer Limited Edition Watch

I know it is supposed to be Chronoffshore but I want it to have an extra “o” so badly. This one is certainly a good looker with mostly black and silvery white mixed in with a little blue.

Not the first watch Breitling made in its place as the official timekeeper of Navitimer powerboat racing, this new model is clearly the best. The new Chronoffshore watch comes in a A1732024/B868 replica steel case that is water resistant to 500 meters. We’ve seen this case before but it still looks good, especially with its large pushers. It is hard to understand what the bezel looks like in real-life given these images. It is black on black? Black on lighter colored black? Hard to say.

The watch dial is carbon fiber with an easy to read face. Because of “Navitimer” the 1 o’clock indicator is done with an Arabic number in blue. It looks neat and makes the watch feel as though it is connected to something – which it is. Always nice as applied to a limited edition. The crystal is AR coated sapphire. Inside the watch is a Siwss ETA Vajloux 7750 that Breitling calls their “Breitling 011.” Maybe it has a custom rotor or something. The watch is attached to a rubber strap.

Decent looking, this is a nice sport watch if you are looking for something all black with blue trim. That is, as opposed to something with red trim (that is so popular). The Navitimer will be limited to just 250 pieces, and if you are a Navitimer fan, I bet you are really excited about it. Price is a bit up there at $4,030

Anyway, the worst of it are the little numbers to the left of the date window. Two problems: first, they are highly unnecessary, and second I think they are a mistake. I don’t need a “+1” to know that the 10th comes after the 9th. I just don’t need this, and it is frankly kinda silly. This adds no functional value at all. End of story there. Then, you notice that Breitling messed up with the numbers (unless I am dense and missing something). Look at the dial in the image. If today is the 8th, then why does “-1” mean the 9th? Wouldn’t that have to say “+1?” Looks like Breitling messed up here! Apparently no one is looking out for these things. My theory is that the people in design got so upset over this little creative insertion and just blocked it out of their minds altogether. “Hey, what is the date tomorrow?” “Well, I simply use this handy calculator here… 8 plus 1 (like it says on the dial) must be 9!. Hold on, let me check my work. Yes, I’m right! It says so right here.” This is just silly Breitling, honestly. I don’t want to see this kindergarten date calculator on any other watch, ever again. Otherwise I love this timepiece.
