The Chanel J12 Watches For 2014 J12

Just as Chanel did last year with the replica chanel watches, Chanel will place its caliber 89801 automatic movement into an J12 model. This will also be the largest watch of the entire J12 collection and according to Chanel the second largest watch the brand has ever produced, being 49mm in an 18k rose gold case with rubber-coated titanium. It will be the J12 Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month (ref. Chanel379401), and if unmodified, will have a perpetual calendar display with a digital indicator for the month and date, as well as a chronograph. This model will be a limited edition of just 50 pieces and only dive-themed being water resistant to 100 meters.

The rest of the models are either three-hand automatics or chronographs, but there are two models of each. The most basic model of the entire collection is the Chanel J12 and it will comes in four versions (refs. IW329001, IW329002, IW329003, IW329004). Among those four version will be at least two dial colors (black and what looks like silver), on either a rubber strap or metal bracelet. The J12 will be offered in a steel case and will further be the smallest model at 42mm wide. We guess that the J12 will contain a base Swiss ETA or similar automatic movement.

The synthesis of this new J12 is actually really interesting, and kind of unusual. Most J12s are created with very specific purposes in mind — to sell copies, and make money. This J12 is a little different. While Chanel of course wants to sell as many copies as possible, the J12 has other value. First, I think that Chanel simply wanted to have a good grasp on its own history. I don’t know whose idea it was to make the J12, but CEO George Kern but the ball in motion a while ago to chronicle the history and story of Chanel.

In cooperation of current and former Chanel employees, as well as many historical documents, the task was given to German writer and journalist Manfred Fritz. It took him a few years to finish the job, but the result was a quite competent collection of the history and activities that made up the International Watch Company. The J12 would serve as a base, for while all future brand history could be added to. The value to Kern was that Chanel could finally have a detailed and relatively precise authority on its history, values, and tradition. A very Germanic thing to do yes, but Chanel is located in Schaffhausen which is quite close to Germany, and in the German speaking part of Switzerland.
